When changing your windows and doors, you do not usually need to apply for planning permission if:
- You are replacing new windows and doors with those of a similar appearance to those used in the construction of the house.
- You are installing secondary glazing.
Occasionally, you may need to apply for planning permission for some of these works if your local council has made an Article 4 direction withdrawing permitted development rights.
If you live in a listed building or designated area there are additional steps to take. For listed buildings, you will need listed building consent for any significant internal or external works.
If your house is in a designated conservation area, national area or area of outstanding natural beauty; there may be additional restrictions in place.
Before carrying out any work, we would recommend checking with your local planning authority.
As a FENSA-approved installer, all our work is 100% compliant with building regulations - giving you complete peace of mind.
Since 2002, building regulations have applied to all replacement glazing. The regulations apply to thermal performance and other areas such as safety, air supply, means of escape and ventilation.
FENSA, a government-authorised scheme that monitors building regulations compliance for replacement windows and doors, regularly asses their installers to ensure standards are maintained.
Once your works have been completed, we will issue you with a FENSA certificate to:
- Confirm compliance with building regulations
- Show your installation is energy efficient
- Ensure it is registered with your local council
- Verify that our installer guarantee is insured
As a FENSA-registered glazing company, we offer a comprehensive 5-year manufacturer’s guarantee for all glass and moving parts (hinges/handles etc) across every product in our portfolio. We also offer a 10-years guarantee on solid parts (doors, door slabs and frames). If you have any problems, we’ll return to fix or replace them. This guarantee is insurance backed and will still apply even if we were to cease trading.
Once the works have been completed, you will receive your FENSA certificate in the post direct from FENSA, which can take between 1 to 3 months. It is important to keep this certificate as it will be required to transfer the guarantee across to the new owners if you move house. Please be aware that FENSA will charge for replacement certificates.
